Most hardware products start in studios.
Ours usually begin as sketches in my notebook.
This one started in our Discord.
From the early days of ZERO, we believed it should become more than just another power bank.
We wanted it to be the starting point of a modular ecosystem shaped alongside its community.
That is why our Discord community exists:
not just as a support server, but as a decentralized creation hub.
How It Starter
A few days ago, two suggestions appeared almost back-to-back in the #suggest-a-feature channel.
The first one was simple:
“You should add a cable winder.”
The second one came from a discussion about travel pouches:
“The cables can fit in the camera hole since it’s unused.”
Individually, both ideas felt small.
But together, something clicked.
What if the cable winder could snap directly into the camera hole?
A few sketches and prototypes later, the first version existed.
Simple.
Lightweight.
Fast to print.
And surprisingly useful.
More importantly, it became a perfect example of what we want ZERO to become:
A product shaped alongside the people using it.
The Next Step
We decided to release the cable winder as open source.
Not as a marketing move.
But because closing it would completely contradict the way it came to life in the first place.
This accessory exists because people participated.
It would make no sense to stop the loop there.
Now anyone can:
- Get it on :
- Print it
- Remix it
- Improve it
- Resize it
- Completely reinvent it
And honestly, that is the part we are most excited about.
Not the first version.
The versions that come next.
And because this accessory was born directly from the community, we decided to take it one step further:
Once we reach the $100K stretch goal, the cable winder will officially become included by default with every ZERO order.
